Real Name For this latest Throwback Thursday I check out the debut novel of impressive thriller author Mark Greaney, The Gray Man. They are led by impressive action hero Court Gentry (a great name, BTW), who is perfectly built up throughout the novel as a superhuman spy, thanks to his skill, intelligence, and pure stubbornness. While it does serve as a really good introduction to the protagonist and his unique situation, I found The Gray Man works well as a standalone novel, and it does not rely too heavily on details revealed in the later novels. The Poison Apple program handler, Suzanne Brewer, also adds some great things to the story. followed Chinggis Khan's policies. Court is a bit similar to Will Cochran, Jonathan Grave, and Orphan X. In four years he had satisfactorily performed twelve operations against terrorists and terrorist paymasters, white slavery profiteers, drug and illegal weapons runners, and Russian Mafia kingpins. "Before he was the Gray Man, Court Gentry was Sierra Six, the junior member of a CIA action team. I thought I would be fair and give the second book a chance but while it wasnt as unbelievable as the first it was still pretty bad. This was an incredibly thrilling story which contains hell of a lot of action and espionage. While this book is very grim and uncomfortable at times due to its darker subject matter, this proved to be a compelling and enjoyable thriller, which is probably my favourite Gray Man novel so far. I really appreciate the way that Greaney featured it in this book, although those people who are uncomfortable with sexual violence will probably have a hard time reading this book. The protagonist, Court Gentry (and I have to point out how much I love that name), is a solid and dependable badass agent to anchor this series. I had an outstanding time listening to this audiobook and it is an excellent format for anyone interested in trying out this latest Gray Man novel. Determined to finish the job once and for all, Gentry works with a small team of rogue operators to find his target. Not only did Snyder provide an excellent and fitting voice for Gentry, but he also produced some great voices for the other characters in the book, coming up with a range of realistic accents to show off the diversity of the cast. As a young man, Gentry had grown up watching his father, a SWAT instructor, train hundreds of men to use weapons and tactics to take down deadly opponents. The Gray Man News The constant discussion about what he achieved is really entertaining, especially as it causes several antagonists some major apprehensions. The series consists of many books, the first of which (The Gray Man) was published in 2009 to both critical acclaim by renowned critics and raving reviews by audiences. The action and intensity of these scenes are first rate, and I loved the slow, deliberate war of attrition that the antagonists wage against Gentry, with the protagonist forced to contend with a lack of equipment, allies, and later in the book, blood. Court Gentry, a former CIA operative, now an international hired assassin. You can kiss your natural gas good-bye. Over the last few years, I have been absolutely hooked on the incredible thrillers of Mark Greaney, who is easily one of the best authors of spy fiction in the world today. I found the audiobook format to be an excellent way to enjoy the novel, and I strongly felt that listening to this book helped me connect a lot more with the story and characters. Despite his murky profession, Gentry keeps his humanity by only accepting contracts on those people he believes deserve to die. American Gentry has a great, action-packed story in Relentless, getting into all manner of dangerous situations, and I loved the cool ways he attempts to extricate himself from them, often by killing his opponents. Honestly, based on how epic the last few Gray Man novels have been, there is no way in hell that I am going to miss out on Burner, especially as it has quite an exceptional sounding story to it. The former colleague makes an unwelcome return into Gentrys life, forcing him to go on a dangerous mission against his will; to kill Sudans President. This makes for a much richer and more impressive story, and it works particularly well in some of the combat sequences, as you get to see all the characters manoeuvring around the battlefield. I absolutely must highlight the books amazing narrator, Jay Snyder, who has since narrated all Greaneys Gray Man novels. Cheryl Gentry was born on 03/30/1958 and is 64 years old. Gentry agreed, knowing his form of security would be elimination. Hands down my favorite assassin-covert operator series. I had a wonderful time hating Lloyd throughout this book, and I cannot wait to see Chris Evanss take on him in the upcoming film adaption. Court Gentry is the modern Devereux. The moment that the antagonists start targeting Gentry, all bets are off and what follows is an incredible blend of action, adventure and spy tradecraft that is very hard to put down. I liked how the past and modern-day storylines both featured great female side characters who helped move the story along in their own distinctive ways. Not only do we get to see Court Gentry do some of his earliest work for the CIA, but you also get to see his first interactions with key supporting characters, including Matthew Hanley and Zack Hightower. P.S. The always impressive Mark Greaney has done it again, producing an incredible and exciting new Gray Man novel. The CIA transport plane that Court Gentry, the Gray Man, is hitching a ride on lands at a airfield and a hooded man is brought on board by guards. His father ran a SWAT school near Tallahassee, Florida where Gentry grew up. Due to how impressive this series has been, I have been really excited to read the next book, Sierra Six, and it was one of my most anticipated releases of 2022, especially as it had a very cool plot to it. Greaney does something a little different for this book and features an excellent and intricate split timeline narrative, with the book divided between the events of the past when Gentry was part of Golf Sierra, and the current events in Mumbai which see Gentry again contending with the target of this original mission. All the books in the entire series are just fantastic. While I did receive a paperback version of Sierra Six, I went out of my way to also get this novel on audiobook as I have had some awesome experiences with the Gray Man books in this format before. Give your grade and comments. Info Greaney is in fine form with Sierra Six as he has written another excellent and intense spy thriller that I deeply enjoyed. While Gentry is able to eliminate his target, he makes a shocking discovery in the buildings cellar: a dark room full of kidnapped women. Due to the plot being about Gentry being hunted by everyone in Europe, most of the alternate perspectives are antagonists, and I had fun with the cool group of villains that Greaney featured in this novel. Specialising in solo operations, Gentry is suddenly reassigned to Ground Branch and must work as the junior member of veteran CIA action team, Golf Sierra. He would only accept an assignment if he felt the target deserved the ultimate sentence. What a year it's been for fans of Mark Greaney's blockbuster franchise. There it is attacked, the guards killed, and the prisoner kidnapped. He is portrayed by Ryan Gosling . Curt Gentry. I am planning to keep an eye out for Greaneys next book, Red Metal, a really cool-sounding war thriller that is coming out in July this year. Also Known As/Alias Court Gentry is no James Bond, but the reader is left with the unmistakable impression that Gentry could waste Bond and ten others like him before they'd even have the chance to unbutton their fancy suits and order a cocktail. I also quite liked the way that for the majority of the book Gentry is working outside of the system, without his usual CIA backup or resources. Journeying down to Venezuela, Gentry makes contact with the former agent, who spins a tale of conspiracy and espionage in the heart of Europe before being brutally murdered by a heavily armed team of assassins. To read more about the site or if you want a graphic to link to us, see the about page for more details. Throughout the course of the novel Greaney shines a light on this foul trade, as his protagonist encounters this evil in Europe and deals with a number of characters affected by it. He isn't one for affection, and he would never get himself a pet. I had a lot of fun with the two separate periods, and I loved how they both made excellent use of interesting characters, fantastic developments and a ton of high-octane action sequences. These various injuries slow him down and make him sloppy as the narrative progresses, so much so that he is barely standing by the time he gets to the final showdown. Gentry has a hell of an ordeal in this novel, forced to fight against impossible odds while being hunted by literally everyone in Europe. Tell us what you think of the series. A heavy SASR (Special Application Scoped Rifle), it is used by many units and armies around the world. However, his career in government espionage came to a violent end when Gentry was set up and burnt, becoming one of the most wanted men in the world with a shoot-to-kill order on his head. The novel ends on a great note, with the two separate storylines coming together perfectly, and the reader is left very satisfied, if a little moved, at the tragic ending of the events from 12 years ago. : (044) 284 -15 - 77 E-mail: inbox@kia.court.gov.ua When you kick over a rock, you never know whats going to crawl out. At that time, Court Gentry was desperate for work to fund his life in hiding from the U.S. government, so he contracted Sir Donald Fitzroy. Subscribe today! 0:00. In addition to Gentry, Greaney came up with an excellent group of supporting characters who serve as alternate point-of-view characters throughout the novel. After years of taking out the very worst gangsters, war criminals and terrorists in impossible situations, Gentry has gained a legendary and is known throughout the business as the Gray Man. His dangerous situation evokes empathy as the audience fears for his life as one of the biggest and most powerful agencies in the world are out for his head. I also really enjoyed the focus on Pakistani intelligence and the Indian underworld, which proved to be very fascinating. His character has depth, thoughtfulness and even a small soft spot beneath his cool, stone-like exterior. Greaney went out of his way to make Lloyd as unlikeable as possible, with the character being extremely arrogant, petty, insecure, and vicious, especially as the novel proceeds and he faces setback after setback. It was particularly fun to see the antagonists reactions as Gentry continues to survive against the odds, and the added note of desperation was pretty entertaining. Nice problem to have if you're him though! Maybe int. Gritty and thorough, a loner who can and often does play nice with others. the scholar-gentry under Yuan rule pushed for _____. The Russo directors and Roth hope that the film will become the next Bourne Identity movie series and that it will enjoy just as much success. Wondering if that was intentional. After a half-decade of being on the outs with the Agency, Court Gentry is again in its good graces and on a mission to Hong Kong. As the Gray Man, Gentry is feared around the world as a lethal assassin and rogue operative, but his real role is as a deniable hitter for Hanley at the CIA. However, Court Gentry remains moral and ethical in an unmoral world, or at least as moral as a hitman can be. I really appreciated the dive back into the period before Court Gentry became the Gray Man, and Greaney paints a compelling figure of a habitual loner with no personal attachments only at the beginning of his espionage career. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine But the series is going downhill. Going under a new codename, Violator, Gentry is redirected aboard a CIA flight in Europe. What will happen to Gentry as he juggles messing with several different and dangerous people at once? However, it is not long before things take a turn for the worst, as Court Gentry is framed and betrayed by the very people he was persuaded to trust. Gentry's ethics are greatly tested. Thanks to the authors use of multiple viewpoints, you get to see inside the heads of several of the Consortiums leaders, and you swiftly learn that they are an extremely vile and irredeemable bunch of characters who the reader instantly roots against. This proved to be a very smart decision as Red Metal was an incredible read that was one of my top books (and audiobooks) of the year.
